On the one hand, we should leave JavaScript enabled by default so websites work the way users expect. Most users would give up on Tor entirely if a website they want to use requires JavaScript, because they would not know how to allow a website to use JavaScript (or that enabling JavaScript might make a website work). We configure NoScript to allow JavaScript by default in Tor Browser because many websites will not work with JavaScript disabled. There shouldn't be any need to add other tweaks to the Browser. The Tor browser automatically comes with NoScript (though disabled by default), and HTTPS Everywhere. Storing files to the HDD on that machine defeats that purpose. Remember, part of Tails is that it's designed to not leave a trace on the host machine. In regard to the host machine's HDD(s), you can mount them, but I don't believe it's done by default. You can configure Tails to have an encrypted, persistent storage for things you need to download & keep between uses. Adding a VPN to the equation defeats this purpose. With Tails, the entire point of an OS is to protect the identity of the user. More often than not, VPNs with Tor are a bad idea unless you 100% know what you're doing and how to mitigate the risks involved. When you use the Tor Browser included, it will automatically look for updates when you launch it. You boot it, load into the desktop, and after 30-90 seconds or so, you'll get a notification that Tor is properly configured. Tails automatically routes all traffic through Tor. Is the tor bundle browser good to go as is or does it need some tweaking? So I would put the latest version of Tails on a USB drive, restart my computer, boot into Tails, download and use the latest Tor Browser Bundle (or I guess I should put the tor browser bundle install file on the usb stick, too?) Sounds simple enough! But I have few questions (I'm a definite noob, remember): Looks like Tails OS is highly recommended to use in conjunction with the Tor Browser Bundle. I've read a lot already but I got plenty of questions!
